Pleased Jasmine, Silas, and the others were safe, Thomas motioned to his team to prepare. He and Kitana created a plan and believed their course of action would bring the quickest results with limited exposure and zero casualties.

They moved to a small room off the foyer with no cameras. Pearl changed forms and looked like Adam wearing a hoodie. When it came to choosing who Thomas should copy, they debated against using Silas. No one would believe he would leave Jasmine behind. With Angus in the forest searching for David, Hawke or Tyrese were the next candidates. Hawke’s history running the Liege’s labs canceled him. Refugees from Liege experiments might attack him, drawing unwarranted attention.

Pulling some of Pearl’s skills, Thomas morphed into Tyrese. Max shifted into a gerbil. Kitana placed him into her pocket, turned invisible, and left the room. Those two would check outside to see who followed Silas and where they were located.

Damali and Tip pulled their hoods to cover their heads and entered the foyer. Pearl now Adam, Thomas now Tyrese, Mia, Noah bought up the rear.

Lizzie duplicated the foyer so the team wouldn’t be noticed by anyone in the house as they stood in the foyer waiting for Kitana’s report.

“We have eyes from the water. One onshore,” Kitana said. “Move out with the bait.”

Jasmine would throw fits if she knew how they planned to block the shot which is why Thomas didn’t share their plans with any of them. As he and the others ran to the van, Adam’s hood flew backward for just a second so he would positively be identified. It would take 35 minutes to reach the staged location. Three modified SUVs pulled out of the driveway away from Adam and Silas.

Thomas didn’t expect engagement from their pursuers at this point but didn’t waste any time on the crowded highway. Kitana had been right in her estimation that only the most sophisticated hitmen would know where Silas had taken Adam. They wouldn’t rush the shot or take a chance of missing or losing their target. They would attempt to take Adam from a stable location by any means necessary. Fortunately, the house they received from Barticus had numerous tunnels allowing them to come and go to complete their mission.

“Turning into the gate,” Max said.

“Behind you,” Matt said.

“Bringing up the rear,” Thomas said.

Once inside the gated compound, Barticus’ security would handle the grounds. As a successful businessman, his contacts with both humans and dual-natureds paid off. Humans held a lucrative security contract for guarding the grounds while Pack took care of the inside.

They pulled into the underground garage and entered the house. Pearl stretched and grabbed a bottle of water as they entered Barticus’ large, soundproof, office and closed the door.

“Security is aware we came in hot and says the house is locked down and secure.” Thomas returned to his true form and took a bottle as well.

“Can’t stop a sonic boom,” Tip muttered.

“Can’t stop me from shutting off his air, either,” Damali said and flipped her hair over her shoulder.
